Signatures of Living Things

I look through microscopes and draw phytoplankton that I see in water from Darling Harbour, then combine these drawings with tracings of smaller forms recorded by scientists using more powerful instruments. This project evolves to become the large canvas (1210mm x 1213mm), Oceanic Bliss: Seagrass Meadow Dreaming.

I frame and label small (A5-sized) drawings that I made while looking down microscopes at lichen that I found during a 2013 science field trip in New South Wales. Their forms are like the drawings of dancers and musicians that I regularly do at National Folk Festivals in Canberra (scroll down beneath the lichen).
