Scientist Sue Fenech takes me to a pier on Darling Harbour not far from UTS. We throw nets into the water and catch phytoplankton. Back in the lab we look through microscopes and I draw our catch. Later I combine these with tracings I make of smaller forms recorded by scientists using more powerful instruments. This project evolves to become the large canvas (1210mm x 1213mm), Oceanic Bliss: Seagrass Meadow Dreaming.

Oceanic Bliss. Painting in progress

I frame and label small (A5-sized) drawings that I made while looking down microscopes at lichen that I found during a 2013 science field trip in New South Wales. Their forms are like the drawings I make of dancers and musicians who I see performing at National Folk Festivals in Canberra.
