Text of the Kyoto Protocol is etched and coloured on a storm damaged skylight, into the shape of a blue melting iceberg. A skylight damaged in a particularly heavy Sydney hailstorm some years back. was the catalyst for this work,Kyoto Berg. I had returned from a voyage to Antarctica, on a science expedition with the Australian Antarctic division, looking at changes in ice and water. Connections between changes in the polar icecaps and in my own backyard (where I found the skylight), could nolonger be ignored. Our world climate is changing, with further extremes in weather on all our horizons. Out of sight, out of mind, the Kyoto Protocol will melt away, like the icebergs that break away from the icecaps, to melt and disappear in increasingly alarming numbers.
