Michaela and I study the Vaganava 'Russian method' of dance and perform choreographies by our teahcers, Laurel Martin, Valerie Grieg, Max Collis and others.

As students in the Theatre School of the Victorian Ballet Guild we must wear grey 'Russian' chiffon tunics. These are expensive to buy. Mum makes tunics for me and Michaela. I feel grateful and proud of her generosity, skill and experience as a seamstress for J. C. Williamson's.

EVENTS

1966: Menzies resigned as Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party after a record office of 16 years. Replaced by Harold Holt.

1966: The decision to send national servicemen to Vietnam caused deep division within the Australian community.

1966: Opposition leader, Arthur Caldwell, shot and wounded as he addressed an anti-Vietnam meeting in Mossman Town Hall, Sydney.

1966: A group of Aboriginal workers from the Gurindji tribe walked off the Wave Hill station owned by the British company Vestey, demanding a large part of the station be handed back, thus beginning a seven-year fight to obtain legal title. In 1973 the Government returned 4,000 square kilometers to the tribe.

1966: Crown of Thorns starfish appeared in plague proportions around Green Island, threatening destruction to coral and structure of the Barrier Reef.

1966: Australia converted to decimal currency after considerable debate over whether the new coins should be called Royals or Dollars.
