Sardines and biscuits
Pro Hart is coming to visit the Joseph Brown Gallery in Melbourne where I work. Joe sends me down the street to buy sardines and biscuits that he knows Pro likes.
Joe is a dealer of Australian art. I first meet Joe with my father when Joe negotiates with him to buy a picture by Tom that we have at home. Noel won't part with it.
Joe teaches me to clean and restore oil paintings. He teaches me to pack artworks for delivery to buyers. One evening I go with him to deliver and hang a picture he'd sold to the Pratt family.
I paint this picture while immersed in 'Oceanic' Jungian dream analysis with Raynor Johnson. I am 'all at sea'. My husband Ian's parents die.
I cannot be a wife. Our marriage falls apart.

On Thursday 7th December 2017 I read:
He [Raynor Johnson] owned a property called "Santiniketan" (a Sanskrit word meaning "abode of peace") at Ferny Creek in the Dandenong Ranges outside Melbourne. There he hosted regular meetings of a religious and philosophical discussion group led by the yoga teacher Anne Hamilton-Byrne. This group became known as "The Family", a cult that adopted a large number of children and treated them cruelly until Victorian police rescued them on 14 August 1987. Hamilton-Byrne and her husband Bill were extradited from the United States six years later and faced criminal charges.
In 2017 I stay with Michael Gardiner. I have come for his father's funeral. The Gardners were beloved family friends: Lauchie a serious lawyer and gambler, Joy a vivacious gypsy. I recognise this painting that I gave to Michael's parents.

EVENTS
1975: Australians saw their favourite television shows in colour.
1975: The Commonwealth Racial Discrimination Act came into force: a newly appointed Commissioner for Community Relations could investigate complaints of racial discrimination and attempt reconciliation between the parties; in the event of the failure of conciliation, the Commissioner could issue the complainant with a certificate entitling him to take civil action.
1975: The 'Loans Affair' began the demise of the Labour Party in Australia, with the Governor-General, Sir John Kerr, blocking supply and replacing Whitlam with Frazer as the country's leader in a 'caretaker government' before elections.
1975: An Australian National Line freighter, Lake Illawarra, rammed a pylon of the Tasman Bridge, across the Derwent river, bringing it down and sinking with the deaths of at least nine people.
1975: The Government recommended there were no environmental reasons for the prohibition of uranium mining.
