I was told that my inability in maths was predestined by genetics. Noel said he didn't expect me to be good at maths because he wasn't, and neither was Mum. He knew a lot about electronics, and could write and draw. He'd studied art at Swinburne when he finished school, but when the war came he changed to the Marconi School of Radio. He taught himself to send Morse code with his right hand while writing with his left. Mum learned tailoring and pattern making as a trade and sewed tents on an industrial sewing machine during the war. She did a variety arts and crafts as a hobby.
