The responses that an Antarctica community has to its landscape range from the poetic to the scientific, the imaginative to the prosaic.

This page is the start of an on-line Antarctic thesaurus currently being developed for another site: www.antarcticanimation.com to visually represent what the scientists and support personnel who work there see in its landscape, and to explore ways that animation can be used to reveal their different prespectives.

Permission has been granted to use the material from The Antarctic Dictionary, researched and written by Bernadette Hince, and Published by CSIRO Publishing in 2000, to build this as an on-line research tool and community-art work as part of my PhD enquiry into human responses to Antarctic landscape.

The material may not be used in any other publications, whether printed or electronic, without further approval from Bernadette Hince and CSIRO Publishing.
